From the moment of the world’s conception, Essence is what bestows life to existence. It binds the corporeal to the soul, creates beauty and love, and defines what, and who, we are. Five known types of Essence exist, each without equal, as they all possess exceptional qualities.
If born with an Essence of Air, the skies are your cradle. A Valkirian, you are, winged and free. With an Essence of Water, the abyssal deep is your home. An Oacian, gilled and scaled, elegant yet callous. In the land of brimstone and flame do those with an Essence of Fire reside. The Sapyres, crowned with horns, and drunk with passion. But find yourself between the trees and the Essence of Earth may be harder to uncover. For the Varsyllus, leaf-skinned and veined, are elusive and quiet creatures.
But one last form remains, the Essence of heaven and divinity: Light. That of the Dex, the people of the stars.
Essence is the thread that which weaves the fabric of reality, tethering each elemental heart with the same bond.
From the moment he was born, it was agreed: Kyrie was not of his kind. He was meant to be a Dex, a figure of Light, a celestial body bestowed the spirit of heaven. But instead, his soul was shrouded, trapped beneath a cloak of infinite shadow. He was no Dex, but something entirely different. An entity outside the order of the universe. A body profoundly flawed.
Kyrie carries with him a corrupted Essence. A trait that allows him to maneuver beyond the seams of the natural world. Worse still, he holds the title of prince to the Dexian throne, a position that grants both unchecked power, and unwavering scrutiny. Yet for all the power Kyrie holds, he has never known peace nor compassion. Scorned from birth, imprisoned in adolescence, and banished as an adult, he now seeks to enact a harrowing revenge upon his former people.
On the day of his niece Kellyn’s coronation, he returns to the domain of the stars, offering her a challenge that could reshape the world. Under her rule, she must right the wrongs of her line, demonstrating the Dex truly are as ascendant as they claim themselves to be. Should Kellyn fail, the Essence of every living soul will be reduced to an indistinguishable shadow and diluted into the void of oblivion.
Kellyn now faces a divine trial. Her duty to her people and role in the world’s balance will take her far beyond the stretches of her imagination, to realms she least expected to venture, in an effort to mend cosmic bonds long since unraveled.
